I purchased this kit to go with my new digital camera (stylus 1030 SW) because it was a better deal to purchase the kit with all of its components than to purchase a 2GB memory card and extra battery separately.
I was a little unhappy with the company I purchased from. The battery was backordered, and they did not give this information at the time of purchase, simply sent the kit without the battery. I had paid for expedited shipping so that I would get everything in time for a vacation I was taking. I received the battery in a few days, but not in time to take it on my vacation.
After all of that, I'm not sure an extra battery was really necessary, because mine seems to last for over a week with pretty regular use, but it's nice to have anyway.
